The Honeywell HZ-709 oil heater is surprisingly quiet and I find that it heats the room up faster when there are fewer things near it. It works even faster near an air vent with the fan running. I’ve only moved it a couple of times within the room and it was like moving a piece of heavy luggage. At least the wheels made the moving of about a few feet somewhat easy. The cord isn’t long enough and I’ve never dared to use power strips with it. I have only plugged it in the same outlet, which an electrician friend checked out for me.

I didn’t figure out the timer right away when I used it once. It wasn’t easy for me to reset the timer so it shut off by itself a couple of times. The digital panel makes reading easy but for some reason the timer’s a bit tricky. I had to turn it back on a couple of times because of that but I didn’t have to use the highest setting. It also doesn’t turn back on after a power interruption, which I think is a safety feature. I rather this thing turn itself off than the other way around. I do unplug it when not in use so I guess this also prolonged its life. I haven’t cleaned the oil-filled radiator unit yet but it worked fine so far.

It’s good for making the room warm but it doesn’t add to the humidity. I noticed this when I had a cough and felt the air was too dry. So I got a humidifier and that helped.

I don’t think the thermostat is accurate as it could be showing a lower temperature than my wall thermometer even after being on for a couple of hours. I haven’t got the thermostat down to a science so I was guessing most of the time although having 3 settings did help. I’m lucky the weather doesn’t change drastically and the temperatures don’t drop so suddenly or there’ll be a lot more guesswork for me.

The good points of this Honeywell HZ-709 oil heater are being quiet, steady and odorless. I’ve never gotten it too hot to the touch as I’ve never tried leaving it at high for more than 30 minutes. The not so good points are it’s not really light and the digital panel could sure use some improvement.
